Cascades Tissue Group Reaches a Decade of Chlorine Free Product Recognition

On a daily basis, buyers and end users are increasingly interested in knowing more about the processes in which everyday products are made. At Cascades we welcome this movement because not only are we committed to being an open and transparent towel and tissue company, but more importantly, manufacturing processes can have a big impact on the world around us and on the health of future generations.

Cascades Tissue Group is proud to have been awarded, for a tenth consecutive year, a certificate for meeting the CFPA (Chlorine Free Products Association) Processed Chlorine Free (PCF) Sustainable Manufacturing Initiative (SMI) requirements and to surpass industry standards set anywhere in the world. Cascades Tissue Group will continue to post the PCF logo on its Cascades®, North River® and Cascades Elite™ branded paper products.

After a thorough, physical inspection of the plants, operating procedures, pertinent documents, and a review of the ‘chain of custody’ for all fiber, the Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA) found the audited Cascades Tissue Group facilities to uphold the high standards described in the SMI PCF Certification guidelines.
Notably, the association applauded Cascades for its transparency and accountability in terms of environmental impact of its manufacturing process.

Of the five Cascades facilities audited in 2011, none scored under 1200, on a scale of 1350 points, making the company an industry leader surpassing standards set anywhere in the world.  “We believe that your [Cascades Tissue Group’s] open door policy and utilization of third party accountabilities for PCF and Sustainability Index rankings send a clear message to the market,” said Archie Beaton, executive director of the CFPA, in a letter to the company. “Cascades is committed to protecting our planet’s natural resources: fresh water, energy, forests, clean air, families and future generations. It was also the first in its industry to comply with the stringent requirements of the SMI audit.”

After hearing that the Chlorine Free Product Association awarded Cascades Tissue Group the certificate, Suzanne, its CEO, noted, “we’re honored to receive this recognition as further evidence to our commitment to support the health of the environment as well as our products’ users.”
